chapter.1

Kix, odd name is it well, wait a bit before judging the situation.

FIRST of all Kix’s father Blessing grew up a stupid fool never listened to anyone in his life except himself, he was an introvert no one ever seemed to penetrate his personal space even his mother thought maybe it’s because he grew up lonely without a father. He had abandoned him when his mother was still pregnant. He started doing drugs at a tender age it drove out all the problems he had. Everything went silent for a while he could forget all his problems, his mom who was always crying drunk, beat up the men who always made his mom cry was all he wanted but couldn’t and anyways her mom always went hunting for them even after they hurt her. When he tried to squeeze an explanation for she would just ignore him saying one day you’ll understand child. On some occasions she would simply say they the ones who pay money for your school. That’s why he was the silent type he believed he had so much to think about so much to solve on his own rather than spending all his time talking. And Kix’s mother Lassa a white girl with so much love a driven individual who dared to challenge everything that came her way. She seemed to pour out wisdom every time she opened her mouth. Her life was almost as terrible as Blessing’s, actually was worse off, she lived with her grandfather both her parents had died in a car accident sometimes she would fail to attend school because her grandparents could not afford her school fees but nonetheless she managed to put a smile on her face and most of the people around her. They were worlds apart different versions of people, there was a difference in how they dealt with their situations but I guess that’s how love is opposites attract. Lassa’s mission in her life was always to be happy all the time no matter what life brought her, those were her mom’s last words to live the best life possible, help others be positive, she thought what more could life bring her that she could not handle. She was an angel walking on the face of the earth. Eventually Lassa met Blessing was a big mess, she saw how he always kept silent how sometimes he would get angry at people who tried to help him, there she saw an opportunity to help. She reached out and said, “Hey” and he looked up to see this small cute face he had never seen before but wasn’t impressed he ignored and kept on contemplating. She started talking to him trying to get into his deep unexplored mind because underneath all that mess she saw a part of him which she once was, “I want to get to know you I want to tell you about myself who I am I’m more like you believe it or not”. He still kept silent then she started explaining it to him. All she knew about her so called parents and how she realized she had to cope with living without a dad or a mom, how she never knew a mother’s love that Blessing had received growing up and even the feeling of having a mother to talk to with all the experiences life had to offer maybe tell her on the boys she had met each day. She also told him that she never knew any of her close relatives except for her grandfather who took care of her and told him how much she appreciated all he did for him on a daily basis and all the activities they did together. In the midst of Lassa narrating her life story he started paying attention he began listening to every word that came from her sweet British accent he started thinking how this girl was in a worse situation than his how she might have struggled coming back to Zimbabwe after her grandfather ran out of money and more even how she managed to handle everything, how she managed to smile after all the bad that came her way so he asked, “how do you do it huh? How do you manage to smile after your grandfather fails to get money for your fees do you help him?” she smiled. It seemed her efforts were paying off then she answered with a question rhetorically “why worry about things that you cannot change, so you have to focus on the issues that you can change. She continued, “as for me, I don’t focus on my dead parents as much as that hurts I focus on helping my grandfather get extra money by doing extra work anywhere I can find a job. That way I can enjoy my life and take care of my responsibilities at the same time” he interrupted “so you mean anything?” she replied with a shy smile “wow ummm….almost anything” then he stared deep into Lassa’s eyes and smiled, she responded by looking down trying to hide the sudden burst of emotions she suddenly felt. Then when he was taking his father’s picture from his ragged satchel looking she stole a glance then realized his mesmerizing brown chocolate eyes that were captivating she had never seen any other like that, she could see the tears behind them the pain the evidence that drugs had left scorched veins through his sclera (the white part of the eyes).
